MBA Engineering
Just as MBA Engineering degrees in general are very versatile and highly marketable so are degrees. The opportunities for engineers cover an extremely wide range of industries creating very diverse career options. An MBA engineering degree is essential for obtaining your professional certification as well a prerequisite for most positions within engineering. In most cases, students entering a graduate degree program in engineering have already decided on a particular focus such as electrical, civil, mechanical, chemical or industrial engineering as a specific discipline. The sub-disciplines which are the most common choices are aerospace engineering, computer engineering, automotive engineering and power engineering. The more narrow ones focus in this field is, the more likely a professional engineer is to gain a more secure and financially rewarding career. Many accredited business schools that offer MBA Engineering Degrees online also provide students with assistance and advice on passing their engineering certification exam.
There are a number of both Canadian and American colleges and universities that offer engineering degree programs, some of these are:
In the United States
- Auburn University
- Brigham Young University (Fulton)
- Brown University
- Carnegie Mellon University
- Cornell University
- Duke University (Pratt)
- Florida State University
- Harvard University
- John Hopkins University (Whiting)
- Michigan State University
- Northwestern University (McCormick)
- Polytechnic Institute of New York University
- Princeton University
- Purdue University (West Lafayette)
- Rice University (Brown)

- University of Ontario Institute of Technology this is a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)
- Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning
- McGill University Macdonald Campus
Once an MBA engineering graduate has obtained their degree, they must receive their professional certification in order to practice in Canada. Each province has their own licensing body and one must hold certification from the province they work in. The provincial licensing bodies are:
- Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (APEGBC)
- Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA)
- Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of Manitoba (APEGM)
- Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick (APEGNB)
- Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS)
- Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia (APENS)
- Association of Professional Engineers of Prince Edward Island (APEPEI)
- Association of Professional Engineers of Yukon (APEY)
- Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of the Northwest Territories (NAPEGG)
- Ordre des ingenieurs du Quebec (OIQ)
- Professional Engineers and Geoscientists Newfoundland and Labrador (PEG-NL)
- Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
There are four steps involved in obtaining you Professional Engineering certification.
- Obtain an accredited engineering degree
- Register as an engineer-in-training with the provincial licensing body where you intend to work.
- Work in an internship program which is generally between two to four years
- Take and pass the certification exam
